Ex-Situ / In-Situ Soil and Groundwater Remediation
BEI provides complete soil and groundwater environmental remediation services. In-house experts determine whether contamination is present, delineate the source and boundaries of any contamination, and identify the best method for efficiently and thoroughly resolving the specific situation. We are experts in the full range of remediation methods, including:
- In-situ Remediation: An effective method of treating contamination in place, particularly when contaminated soil and groundwater cannot be readily accessed. BEI is on the leading edge of applying in-situ chemical oxidation bioremediation solutions which can be a significantly more cost-effective in situations that would otherwise require significant structural support.
- Ex-situ Remediation: Removal and disposal of contaminated soil and groundwater offsite.
Indoor Vapor Intrusion Assessment and Remediation
BEI has a highly trained project team focused specifically on indoor vapor intrusion. Vapor intrusion refers to the migration of hazardous vapors from soil or groundwater contaminated by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as chlorinated solvents like perchloroethylene (PCE) and dry-cleaning products, or non-chlorinated VOCs such as gasoline, into the indoor air space. With our extensive knowledge and expertise, BEI is qualified to perform all required activities, from management of Immediate Environmental Concerns (IECs) through the design and installation of a vapor mitigation system (VMS). By virtue of our experience in this service area, BEI is also adept at identifying situations where it is appropriate to use multiple lines of evidence to alleviate the need for clients to install a VMS in facilities where background sources may be present.
Enhanced Fluid Recovery (EFR)
EFR removes multiple phases of hydrocarbons (liquid, dissolved, adsorbed and vapor phase) simultaneously by extracting fuel, vapors, and contaminated groundwater from multiple monitor or recovery wells. EFR has also been highly successful in removing significant contamination from sites where other organic chemicals such as chlorinated solvents have been present in soil and groundwater. BEI has combined EFR with surfactant injection to enhance mass removal of contaminated groundwater. Mobile EFR events are often a cost effective solution for hot-spot remediation and management of NAPL.
